Crawl spaces lead the way in mold concerns. Mold is found in almost 100% of all crawl spaces, new and old. Foundation vents were intended to prevent the buildup of gases, as well as, allow the space to cross ventilate freeing the area from mold and other fungus build up. In theory this process seemed to work, however, in reality it has failed. Moisture and hot air enter through the vents mixing with the cooler interior air allowing condensation to form and settle on the ground. As the air changes, the water returns to a vapor and attaches to the interior structures creating a breading ground for fungus. From mold to wood fungus the crawlspace is now an unhealthy environment and without proper care will cause the structure to become uninhabitable.
